Three-time CIAC state champion Ty Outlaw has resigned as the Bloomfield High School football coach.

Outlaw, who took over the head coaching position at Bloomfield in 2010 and led the program to seven CIAC Class S championship games, stepped aside in late January to take on a new challenge.

Now Outlaw will return home to his alma mater, East Hartford High School.

"I had a great time at Bloomfield, and it has been over 15 years," Outlaw said. "I think it was time for me to go full circle and go back to where I learned football, where it all started. I have been playing football since I was seven years old and that started in East Hartford. East Hartford taught me, and with what little time I have left I want to give back."

Outlaw led Bloomfield to CIAC Class S titles in 2015, 2018 and 2023, with other championship appearances in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2024 (Bloomfield reached the Class S final in six straight seasons from 2018-2024). He went 137-39 over his career at Bloomfield.

His .778 winning percentage is among the highest in state history according to the Connecticut high school football record book.

This past fall, Bloomfield went 7-4 with a first round exit in the CIAC Class S tournament, losing to No. 1 seed Woodland 42-14.

"It was a great run at Bloomfield with my coaching staff, the administration, and all the players, with the ones we got to college and beyond college," Outlaw said. "We have been a tight knit family for so long, it made this decision very hard. I truly enjoyed my time at Bloomfield. It was like a story book. We took our losses, but we also won a lot. I think everyone was happy with the last 15 years, and now it is time for a new adventure."

The new adventure will be to take over an East Hartford program that went 2-8 this past fall, and has not reached the postseason since 2017.

Outlaw graduated from East Hartford High School in 1992, and still ranks tied for fifth all-time in state history with 21 career interceptions as a player.

"The program has struggled over the years, but I remember when East Hartford was a powerhouse football town," Outlaw said. "Nobody is really scared of East Hartford when you play them now. We want to help form it into a really competitive football town again."

Among East Hartford's losses this past fall was the highest scoring game in Connecticut high school football history, an 80-74 loss to Conard in which 154 points were scored with 22 touchdowns. In that game, East Hartford junior quarterback Anthony Caravallo tied the state record for most touchdown passes in a game with nine.
