A grappling superfight is officially on the horizon, as Craig Jones and Dillon Danis are expected to headline the upcoming Craig Jones Invitational 3 event later this year.

A date and location have yet to be determined, but Jones announced the news via Instagram on Friday. The matchup is being labeled as a meeting between “The Greatest Grapplers In The World.” Check it out below:

“OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT,” read the statement. “The main event of CJI 3, for the title of Greatest Grappler in the World: Pound-for-pound MMA and jiu-jitsu champion Dillon Danis vs. jiu-jitsu’s number two ranked, Craig Jones. More details coming soon.”

Jones, who was expected to retire last year, is still one of the most prolific grappling experts in the world today. The 34-year-old does quite a bit of traveling these days to help train some of the best fighters in the world. When Jones isn’t on the move he’s hosting his self-made CJI grappling tournaments, which launched in 2024 with CJI 1 (results HERE) and then made a return in 2025 with CJI 2 (results HERE). It was only a matter of time until CJI 3 was announced, but fans didn’t know who would headline the event.

Now they do and they might be a little surprised.

Danis, who is an accomplished grappler in his own right, isn’t the worst choice skill wise, but there’s no guarantee at all that the former Conor McGregor-crony will actually make it to the match. Remember, Danis was supposed to compete at the Misfits Mania boxing event back in December, but he was yanked from the card after getting caught up in a lopsided brawl at UFC 322 (which got him banned from all future UFC events). Danis also removed himself from a boxing match with KSI back in 2023 because he was “underprepared.” Sounds like someone who should never be trusted, especially in a main event spot.

What do you think, fight fans? Was this the matchup to make? Will Danis even make it to the event or will someone have to step up on short notice?

Sound off!
