LUBBOCK, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – No. 13 Texas Tech has hit its first speed bump of the season after dropping back-to-back games. The Red Raiders fell by a combined 11 points against UCF and Kansas, and now they look to get back on track as they travel to face West Virginia.

“The Big 12 conference, man, what a fight every day and every night to be great in this league,” head coach Grant McCasland said.

When the Red Raiders play West Virginia, it will be a battle of two friends and former coaches at Midland College. Besides coaching the Chaps, the two also made stops together at Arkansas State and North Texas.

“Been on a lot of benches with Ross Hodge, where we’ve been down significantly, and we’ve found ways to win,” McCasland said.

Hodge joined the Mountaineers in March of 2025, signing a five-year deal as the head coach, and now he faces a former Coach he shared the sidelines with and a friend, Grant McCasland.

“There’s nobody that I respect more than Ross Hodge and their team, and I know that we’ll get better either way because of this game,” McCasland said. The focus has been on how do we do our best to give ourselves the best chance to win this game.”

Texas Tech enters Sunday’s contest with a 16-6 overall record, sitting fifth in the conference. West Virginia enters at 15-8 overall, sitting in sixth in the Big 12.

“Our practices have given me a lot of hope,” McCasland said. I can see the continuity of different lineups starting to look like, hey, now we’re not guessing, now we’re competing.”

Following Sunday’s contest in Morgantown, the Red Raiders will be back at home on Wednesday to host Colorado at United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock.
