Following an emphatic run of results, the Manchester United squad’s morale is perhaps the highest it’s been all season.
Beating the top two in the league, which included arch-rivals Manchester City, and returning to the top four will do that to a team who, prior to Carrick’s arrival, were bereft of belief or optimism.

One player who’s relished the turnaround first-hand is Casemiro, who honoured Ruben Amorim’s controversial system until the very end of his tenure just over a month ago.
Now, with the side enjoying a more free-flowing setup that caters to each player’s strengths, the Brazilian reportedly took the time to express his gratitude to Carrick directly.
A report from United expert Laurie Whitwell (via The Athletic) revealed on Friday: “After a few games under Carrick, Casemiro — a footballer who has always placed a high value on the need to be respected — thanked him and said that he was feeling like a footballer again.”

Towards the end of January, Casemiro announced that he would be leaving Old Trafford come the end of the season when his contract expires, having decided that then would be the right time to pull the curtains on his four-year tenure.
United did have the option of extending the 33-year-old’s deal by an additional year through his 12-month option, but were reluctant to do so due to his exorbitant wages; Casemiro is the club’s highest earner on a reported £350,000 per week.
Until June, his goal, like Carrick’s, is simple: secure Champions League qualification by any means necessary.

Heading into matchweek 25, the Reds hold a one-point lead over fifth-placed Chelsea and a two-point advantage over Liverpool in sixth.
As things stand, the Premier League is on course to earn the extra UCL place, which will slightly ease the pressure on United – so long as they stay firmly in the mix.
