Owen Hargreaves was in disbelief over Kobbie Mainoo’s tremendous display against Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon.
The midfield starlet retained his place for the fourth successive game, meaning he has now started in every single match since Michael Carrick took the reins.
He enjoyed yet another eye-catching shift in the middle of the park as United secured a 2-0 win to make it four on the bounce, which also marked their first victory over Spurs since October 2022.
Mainoo notched his second goal contribution of the campaign when he assisted Bryan Mbeumo for an incredibly well-worked opener.
The youngster received the ball from Bruno Fernandes’ corner kick before playing it directly into the path of Mbeumo, who was able to hit it first-time into the bottom corner of Guglielmo Vicario’s goal.
That wasn’t the only reason that Mainoo impressed, though. As per Fotmob, he finished his 89-minute stint with a 94 per cent passing accuracy and created four chances in total.
He completed two dribbles, made 10 passes into the final third and had three touches in the opposition’s box.
Defensively, the 20-year-old recorded two tackles, one clearance, one headed clearance, four recoveries and won one foul. What’s more, he won six ground duels and two aerial duels.
When reacting to the afternoon’s affairs at full-time on TNT Sports, Hargreaves said of Mainoo: “I’ve never seen him have a bad game, I can’t believe how talented he is. He looks like he’s playing in the park with his mates.”
Mainoo being restored to the side, increasing his game time substantially, and picking up where he left off in such stellar form will undoubtedly have Thomas Tuchel on red alert in the build-up to the World Cup.
The Carrington graduate has yet to feature for England since Tuchel succeeded Gareth Southgate last year, but did earn the bulk of his 10 Three Lions caps when representing his nation at Euro 2024.
