The Spaniard comes into 2027 still without a race win under his belt but has been right up there among the front-runners every year since coming through Moto3 and Moto2 as champion.

This pairing gives Ducati an incredible combination of experience and youth. Even at just 21, Acosta is already viewed as one of the fastest riders on the grid.
Add in his outspoken personality, and there could be friction between the two, even if Marquez’s future beyond 2027 isn’t clear.
Lorenzo had previously suggested that Acosta and Ducati would end up working together. Now that it’s happening, he’s offered a bit of caution based on his own experiences.
Lorenzo joined Honda to partner Marquez in 2019 under similar fanfare. But his time there was derailed by injury and poor results, showing just how unpredictable these pairings can be.
“Pedro is a smart guy,” he added. “He also has a smart manager, Albert Valera, and at Ducati there’s Gigi Dall’Igna: intelligent people always understand each other.”

One of the most obvious differences between the two situations is that Lorenzo was nearly a decade older than Acosta will be when he joins Marquez’s side.

And while Marquez will have three years under his belt on the Desmosedici by 2026, upcoming rule changes could reduce the value of that experience.
The move hasn’t been officially announced yet, but Ducati haven’t hidden their interest in Acosta. Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia appears to be weighing up his future options.
