After struggling defensively for much of the second half, Louisville held Wake Forest scoreless for the final four minutes and 42 seconds of an 88-80 triumph Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem.

Over those final five minutes, Cardinal center Sananda Fru blocked three shots, two of them on Demon Deacon star Juke Harris, who scored a game-high 25 points. Fru played perhaps his most complete game of the season, making all seven of his field goal attempts and finishing with a team-high 17 points.

It’s officially FebFruary, folks.

All five Cardinal starters scored in double figures, with Khani Rooths coming off the bench to also hit double figures (13) for a third straight game.

Louisville never trailed in the game and led by as many as 15 in the second half, but some hot shooting by Wake Forest allowed the Deacs to tie the game up at 80 with just under five minutes to play. Tre’Von Spillers had two free-throw attempts to try and put the hosts on top for the first time, but missed both. The Cardinals then scored the game’s final eight points, all of them coming from the free-throw line.

It wasn’t perfect (it never is), but we’re not going to turn our nose up at a Quad-I conference road win in February.

Monster game on Monday against an NC State team that’s playing as well as anyone in the conference outside of Duke, and which is going to be hungry to make a national statement in a standalone nationally televised game.

Get your white apparel together and let’s officially get hot.
