FC Bayern boss Vincent Kompany might be plotting to be fresh for the stretch run.

Noted pundit Didi Hamann agrees with Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany — for great teams, everything is a build-up to the season’s crucial months.

“It is funny that Vinny said that because you could make the point about Bayern Munich, too, right now because they lost their first game (vs. FC Augsburg), but he’s right. When Bayern Munich played Paris Saint-Germain they really wanted to show the world they had what it takes in order to be taken seriously in the Champions League. I had the same feeling when Arsenal played Bayern because Bayern had beaten Arsenal quite a few times over the past few years. If Arsenal beat Bayern, everybody will take them seriously and I think they invested an awful lot into their game against Bayern,” Hamann told Casino Beats. “Kompany is correct. Titles are won in March, April and May. You want your best players fit for then. The Champions League has now started up again. We will know come Wednesday or Thursday who is getting into the top eight and who is going through into the playoffs.

“Kai Havertz is out again. I don’t think he’s been available for most of the season but they haven’t really got too many other injuries and that’s the thing with Arsenal. If you look at the team they’ve got both their center-backs playing, in midfield they haven’t got too many injuries at the moment. It’s pretty surprising that they lost to Manchester United, especially the way they did, too.”

Interestingly, Kompany has recently started to rotate more, which could show he is prepping to have his team rested and healthy for the stretch run of the season.
