From record rushing touchdowns to elite passing seasons, Josh Allen continues to redefine what a modern NFL quarterback can be.
Quarterback Josh Allen has been at the center of one of the greatest eras in Buffalo Bills history. But has the Bills quarterback ever made it to the Super Bowl, let alone hoisted the Lombardi Trophy?
Since Buffalo drafted the California native in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Bills have made it to the playoffs seven times. They won the AFC East for five straight years until the 2025 season, when the resurgent New England Patriots took the division.
Allen's rookie year is the only season Buffalo fell short of a postseason berth.
Has Josh Allen ever made it to the Super Bowl?
Even though Josh Allen was the 2025 NFL MVP, he has a modest 8-7 record in the playoffs. In fact, he has never advanced beyond the AFC Championship despite being on the doorstep in January 2025.
How good is Josh Allen?
Josh Allen stands as one of the best, if not the best, dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history. He possesses one of the league's strongest arms and pairs that with a devastating running ability.
- Total Touchdowns: Youngest and fastest to reach 300 (passing + rushing).
- QB Rushing TDs: Holds the NFL record for most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback.
- 300+ Yard Games: Became the first Bills player with multiple 4,000+ yard passing seasons.
- All-time rushing TDs: He ranks 23rd on the NFL's all-time list, with 22 running backs in front of him. One more touchdown and he ties Edgerrin James, two more and he ties Frank Gore and Ottis Anderson.
Allen has averaged 0.62 rushing touchdowns per game in his career. At that pace:
- He could reach 100 career rushing touchdowns in his 162nd game, which could happen as early as the 2027 regular-season finale.
- He could become only the 11th player in NFL history to hit triple-digit rushing TDs — and the only quarterback.
Among active players, only Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry (113) has more career rushing touchdowns than Allen. Henry is fifth on the all-time list.
Why can't Josh Allen get to the Super Bowl?
This one is complicated to answer. For years, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs have thwarted the Bills in the playoffs. Meanwhile, teams like the Denver Broncos, New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars came into their own in 2025.
All this happened while the Bills roster has slowly degraded over the past two seasons at wide receiver, while injuries have devastated Buffalo's defense. Bills' leadership has failed to find a reliable wide receiver beyond Khalil Shakir, let alone the prototypical No. 1 receiver that Bills fans have been clamoring for.
The Bills' regression in 2025 is ultimately what led to the firing of head coach Sean McDermott after the heartbreaking 33-30 loss to the Broncos in mid-January, with owner Terry Pegula pretty much blaming the coaching staff.
It remains to be seen if new head coach Joe Brady and his staff will find the answer to get the Bills into Super Bowl, let alone win the league title that Buffalo is aching for.
