Leandro Trossard pulled up towards the end of the match, having already provided the assist for the opening goal, but was able to walk off under his own power, replaced by Christian Norgaard on 89 minutes.
Reports have described the problem as a possible calf issue, with the forward now set to be monitored ahead of Arsenal’s next league fixture, the midweek trip to Brentford on Thursday.
As of this morning there has been no official update from the club or from Mikel Arteta on scans or timescales, only that Trossard is a doubt for the game and will be checked by the medical team.
He was not discussed in the post-match press conference, with Arteta seemingly not asked about the issue by reporters.
The situation comes at a time when Arsenal are already managing several fitness concerns to key players (when are they not?).
Martin Odegaard remains sidelined after picking up a minor muscle problem late on against Leeds, but is expected back within days.
He felt what was described as a “little niggle” during that match, with Arteta later explaining that they tried him in training before Chelsea, but “he wasn’t comfortable,” leading to his absence against both Chelsea and Sunderland, with Brentford seen as a likely return point.

Bukayo Saka is also unavailable with a hip problem sustained during the warm up before the Leeds game, which forced him out of the starting XI at the last minute.
He has since missed Leeds, the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Chelsea and the Sunderland match.
Arteta has consistently described the issue as a hip or muscle niggle, saying “his hip is much better” and that they expect him back “very soon, very soon,” while stressing it is not serious.

Most reports suggest his return is likely to fall between the Brentford trip and the north London derby away to Tottenham Hotspur, with the latter pencilled in as the more realistic target.
Max Dowman is also sidelined with the ankle injury he picked up against Manchester United in a behind-closed-doors friendly. He is expected back later this month.
For now, Arsenal’s focus is on Trossard, who has been a key contributor this season with seven goals and eight assists.
Whether his withdrawal against Sunderland proves precautionary or the start of a short spell on the sidelines should become clearer once the medical staff have completed their checks.
