The comeback has a bummer of an ending.
Lindsey Vonn crash video is the injury news no one wanted for U.S. skiing legend originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Lindsey Vonn worked so hard to come back and compete in the Winter Olympics at age 41.
A torn ACL for the U.S. skiing legend in her last tuneup race wasn't going to stop her, either.
But then on Sunday, as she raced downhill in her first event at these 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, Vonn's ski clipped one of the gates. It sent her spiraling and crashing forward.
Vonn had to be airlifted away after the crash, and her highly anticipated return instead led to a brutal scene for everyone who woke up early to watch.
The crash happens about 15 seconds in to the below video:

It's too early to speculate on potential injuries.
This is a different kind of crash than the ones often seen in skiing, where a competitor simply loses control on a change of direction.
Here, it's clear Vonn's ski caught onto one of the gates, which caused her to lose her balance. So there wasn't an injury that caused the loss of control, but rather potential injury caused by clipping the gate.
Skiing isn't for the faint of heart. Vonn has a long injury history, as do most of the competitors.
But given Vonn's comeback story, this one is particularly painful. Eventually, we'll learn whether Vonn can compete later in the Olympics.
For now, U.S. fans are just hoping she's OK.
