This isn't something anyone saw coming when it was announced on Sunday.
Iowa State University announced that the rest of its women's gymnastics season has been canceled.
The Cyclones were still slated to compete against Western Michigan (Feb. 13), Arizona State (Feb. 22), Arizona (Feb. 27), BYU (March 6) and Iowa (March 13). The Big 12 Championships are scheduled for March 21.
ISU won't be taking part, though.

Why did Iowa State cancel the women's gymnastics season?
The official reason is not having enough athletes left to compete, seemingly due to injury.
"After a careful and thoughtful review of the program over the last week, it became apparent that we do not have enough student-athletes available to safely compete, and thus have made the painful decision to cancel the remainder of our gymnastics season," associate athletic director Shamaree Brown said in a release. "The health, safety and overall welfare of our student-athletes is paramount, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they are able to safely train and compete at the highest level."
The implication on social media is that the Iowa State team has dealt with injuries all season.
The Cyclones are just 2-8 on the campaign.
It's not yet clear what this move might mean for the eligibility of the athletes to compete in future season.
Hopefully all the gymnasts can get the NCAA to give them a redshirt year. Really sucks for them but definitely the right call https://t.co/kk8rwiYhxH

It seems like more may come out about this eventually, but for now, this is what is known.
