The Seahawks are Super Bowl 60 Champions!
The Seattle Seahawks are once again Super Bowl champions.
Thanks to a dominant defensive performance from Mike Macdonald’s Dark Side unit, Seattle dominated the New England Patriots offense in a 29-13 win.
Seattle got after Patriots quarterback Drake Maye from the beginning of the game, sacking him seven times thorughout the game and holding them to only seven points. The Patriots only managed to notched 331 yards in the game and only one first down in the second half. The Seahawks struck the dagger in the back of the Patriots after Maye lost the ball and it fell into the waiting arms of Uchenna Nwosu for a pick-6.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold struggled with the pressure from the New England front, only completing 50% of his passes for 144 yards and a touchdown. Seattle leaned on Kenneth Walker III all night to ignite their offense, the Super Bowl MVP finished with 135 on 27 carries.
Seahawks vs. Patriots 1st Half Recap
After losing the coin toss and a Rashid Shaheed touchback, quarterback Sam Darnold led the Seahawks onto the field to open the Super Bowl. Kenneth Walker III got the Seahawks started with an 11-yard run, which snowballed into a red-zone drive thanks to a couple of close, but completed, passes by Darnold. The drive stalled and forced Jason Myers to come on for a 33-yard field goal, which he nailed. Seahawks 3, Patriots 0
The New England Patriots moved the ball into Seattle territory quickly on their first drive, thanks to quality runs from Rhamondre Stevenson. Derrick Hall worked the Patriots’ left tackle Will Campbell to bring down Drake Maye, which would stall their drive and force New England to punt. Pinned back deep in his own end zone, Darnold stayed with his risk-taking ways and barely missed Jaxson Smith-Njiba downfield for a Seattle three-and-out.
Maye found Kayshon Boutte for 21 yards on the first play of New England’s second drive, moving them back into Seattle territory. However, two perfectly called blitzes by Mike Macdonald helped the Seahawks generate negative plays and force another Patriots punt.
Both teams traded three-and-outs at the end of the first quarter. Walker reignited the Seahawks offense on their fourth drive with a tight-rope 30-yard run and a patient 20-yard rush to get them into field goal range. Another successful Patriots blitz put the Seahawks behind the 8-ball, leading to a second Myers field goal, this time from 39 yards out. Seahawks 6, Patriots 0
The defense battle continues, with the Seahawks defense forcing a Patriots three-and-out and the Pats responding by standing tall in their own territory. New England’s rookie tackles have been the story of the game, and a false start by Campbell led to a fifth consecutive punt by the Patriots.
A good punt return by Shaheed set the Seahawks up with quality field position before the two-minute warning. Walker and Darnold pushed the Seahawks into field goal range, but sacrificed the team’s remaining timeouts to do it, leading to another Myers field goal before the halftime break. Seahawks vs. Patriots 2nd Half Recap
The Seahawks defense contiuned to do what it has done all game, forcing a Patriots three-and-out to open the second half. Darnold used his sneaky athleticism to move the Seahawks into Patriots territory before yet another blitz got home on third down to force a fourth Myers’ field goal attempt. Myers stayed true and continued on his mission toward a Super Bowl MVP, knocking down a 41-yard field to extend Seattle’s lead. Seattle 12, Patriots 0
Both teams have gone back and forth trading punts, unable to stop the pass of the opposing defenses. The Seahawks defense’s dominantion continues, sacking Maye four times and forcing three straight punts in the second half.
Without Smith-Njiba, the Seahawks’ offense has struggled to find its footing as the Patriots shift toward a blitz focused apparoach. After a quick three-and-out, the Patroits went back to work, picking up their first first down of the second half off a defensive holding call on Devon Witherspoon. However, just two plays later, Hall swung around the edge and knocked the ball out of Maye’s hand and into the arms of Byron Murphy II for the first turnover of the game.
Capitalizing off the field position at the start of the fourth quarter, Darnold went quick to Cooper Kupp and AJ Barner to keep the drive alive. On a first down inside the red zone, Darnold faked a run to George Holani and lobbed a pass to a wide open Barner for the first touchdown of the game! Seahawks 19, Patriots 0
The touchdown much have sparked life in Maye and Patriot’s offense, because they started with a 6-yard run and then a 24-yard rope to Mack Hollins. The duo connected on the very next play over cornerback Riq Woolen for a 35-yard touchdown, ending Seattle’s shoutout with 12 minutes left to play. Seahawks 19, Patriots 7
Darnold and the Seahawks’ offense looked overwhelmed, being forced into a quick punt following the Patriots score. With momentum in hand, Maye was marching his team down the field with quick throws and runs. With pressure in his face on second down around midfield, Maye fired a strike downfield in the waiting arms of Seahawks’ defensive back Julian Love for his first inteception of the game.
The field position was all the Seahawks needed, leaning on Walker yet again to get them into field goal range. The unshakeable Myers drilled his fifth field goal to extend the Sehawks lead with five minutes left. Seahawks 22, Patriots 7
It’s safe to say, Maye has been welcomed into the Dark Side, being sacked seven times. The seventh featured another Witherspoon blitz, which knocked the ball into the arms of Uchenna Nwosu, who ran 44 yards to the house. It’s feeling like 2013 again, at last. Seahawks 29, Patriots 7
With time draining on the clock, Maye contuined to fight. The Patriots’ offense was able to move the ball with quick passes on a prevent defense, leading to a 7-yard touchdown to Stevenson. The Pats went for a two-point conversion, which was knocked down by Coby Bryant. Seahawks 29, Patriots 13
A MVP defnining run by Walker was called back thanks to a hold on Jalen Sundell, forcing one last Micheal Dickson highlight after the two-minute warning. The clock continues to run as Maye attempts to mount an impossible comeback. Two penalties against the Seahawks only prolong the envitable. The clock hits triple zeroes and the Seattle Seahawks have won Super Bowl 60!
