SANTA CLARA, Calif. (WCIA) — Devon Witherspoon has become the latest Illinois product to hoist a Lombardi Trophy.
Witherspoon and the Seattle Seahawks beat New England 29-13 to win Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara.
With fellow Illinois alumni Tommy Devito and Vederian Lowe on the other side of the ball for the Patriots, the Illini were guaranteed a champion. Witherspoon played a major role in Seattle’s commanding defensive performance, with an early sack of Drake Maye to set the tone and a late strip sack that opened the door for a game-sealing scoop-and-score touchdown.
Witherspoon is the 28th former Illini to win a Super Bowl title.
