Luka Vušković says Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane was his toughest opponent

Vušković recently said that FC Bayern’s Harry Kane has been his toughest ever opponent…

Hamburg SV earned a historic point against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga at the very end of January at the Volksparkstadion, having been only the third team in the league to take points off of the reigning champions so far this season. FC Augsburg and Union Berlin are the only other two sides in the Bundesliga to have taken points off of the German Rekordmeister in what’s otherwise been a truly incredible season for Vincent Kompany’s side thus far. They’re still in the running for the treble and are getting closer to finally having a fully fit squad as key injury returnees make their way back to the suqad.

Croation center-back Luka Vušković was the main who ultimately proved to be the thorn in Bayern’s side in the 2-2 draw, as he was the one who scored HSV’s second goal after Bayern had taken a 2-1 lead through Harry Kane. The officiating performance after the match was highly criticized by Bayern players, coaching staff and pundits alike, but Vušković has recently said that playing against Kane was one of the toughest jobs he’s personally ever had.

“Harry Kane. He’s incredibly difficult to play against because he sees everything. Whenever he has the ball at his feet, he’ll do something. Either an assist or a goal if he’s in the penalty area. He’s the toughest striker I’ve played against for sure,” the center back replied when he was asked who the toughest opponent he’s ever faced has been (via @iMiaSanMia).

Of course, Vušković saw far more of Kane’s lethality in the first meeting between HSV and Bayern in the hinrunde, when Bayern won 5-0 at home and Kane grabbed a brace and also assisted Aleksandar Pavlović‘s goal in the routing. The Croatian also had a wicked deflection on Luis Díaz’s shot that led to a goal, so it’s safe to say it was far from his best outing that time around, especially compared to having grabbed the equalizer in the recent 2-2 draw.

Both Kane and Vušković could become teammates at some point in the future, too — that’sif Bayern’s board and front office ever take the advice of former Croatian international Ivan Rakitić. The former Barcelona, Sevilla, and Schlake 04 man said that Bayern would be the perfect place for his compatriot and would love to see him play for the club at some point. With the extension of Dayot Upamecano and the presence of Jonathan Tah, it wouldn’t be ideal for him to sit on the bench behind those too, but things could happen and he could definitely be a Bayern player some day.
