ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Local teams kicked off the week, claiming conference hardware.

In the Northern Tier League (NTL), Towanda picked up their biggest win of the season over North Penn-Mansfield 53-41. With their Monday night victory, the Black Knights wrapped up the Large School title, despite a season long challenge from the Tigers and Athens.

In other NTL action, the Wildcats defeated Wyalusing 68-52, behind 20 points from Aiden Briggs and 16 from Lucas Schultz. James Friend added 13 to the winning effort, while Tyler Caplan paced the Rams with a game-high 21 points. At the other end of the standings, Wellsboro outlasted Central Columbia 55-50 in the league’s only other boys game on the night.

Ava Hughes was honored as the Athens Girls Basketball’s lone senior, ahead of their game with Wyalusing.

On the girls side, Athens rallied within striking distance of Wyalusing late, but fell short 48-41. McKenna Jarvis led the Wildcats’ effort with 18 points, while Emily Johns netted a game-high 19 for the Rams. Prior to the action, Athens honored their lone senior, Ava Hughes with a special presentation, as she was joined by her family and teammates.

On the lanes, Elmira girls bowling earned their third-straight STAC Championship. The Express girls scored a total of 2,830 at Vestal’s Midway Lanes to retain the crown. Madison Smith delivered an outstanding performance on the day, earning the competition’s high game (258) and series (681). Madyson Wasicki added onto the winning effort with the 5th highest series of the day, scoring a 598.

2025-26 STAC Girls Bowling Championship Team Results (Via STAC scores):
1. Elmira – 2,830
2. Windsor – 2,775
3. Union-Endicott – 2,604
4. Waverly – 2,241

On the boys side, Maine-Endwell (3,359) held off Waverly (3,350), Elmira (3,283), and Chenango Valley (2,741) for the championship. Elmira’s Logan Card scored the 2nd highest game of the day (280), while also taking the 3rd best series (731). The Wolverines were led by Derek Johnson, who delivered the 2nd highest series (779) and 3rd highest game (279).
