The month of January was far from easy for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Brahim Diaz. After all, he was guilty of missing a penalty while in action for Morocco in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, which cost his country the title.

The 27-year-old versatile player faced criticism from various quarters and went through a difficult period in the aftermath of the competition.

Knocking on the doors again at Real Madrid

But, having fought through the tough time, Brahim Diaz is once again starting to become an important player for Real Madrid and is knocking on the doors asking for greater prominence in the team, reports AS.

The Moroccan international accepted his mistake and apologised publicly through a statement, despite returning to Madrid as the AFCON Golden Boot winner, with an impressive personal record.

Those close to him maintained that the episode would make him mentally stronger, and time has proved them right.

Far from collapsing, the versatile attacker has taken a significant step forward, showing his mental strength in the three matches he has played since returning with Real Madrid.

Against Rayo, he was decisive after replacing Jude Bellingham, who was injured in the fifth minute. Brahim provided the assist to Vinicius Jr. for Real Madrid’s opening goal and created the move that led to the penalty converted by Kylian Mbappe for the winning goal.

Against Valencia, he was again decisive, assisting Mbappe to seal the victory late in the game.

Right flank there for the taking

Against Valencia, Brahim started on the bench before settling into the left flank of Real Madrid’s attack.

However, he may ultimately be able to grow into the team more on the right wing, particularly with Rodrygo Goes sidelined and Franco Mastantuono still struggling to establish himself.

What is clear is that Brahim has completely changed his situation since he returned from the Africa Cup of Nations three weeks ago.

He is knocking on the door of Alvaro Arbeloa with increasing force and intensity. He knows that he has a place in the starting XI at Real Madrid, but he is prepared to wait for his moment and change matches from the bench, as he has done before.
