YALE — Basketball is a game of runs. This game, however, was practically a single run — one that spanned three quarters.

A 30-0 tear, lasting 19:58 of game time, powered the Yale High School boys basketball team past Croswell-Lexington, 54-28, in an MHSAA Division 2 district final on Friday, Feb. 27.

Jackson Kohler led all scorers with 22 points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 22-2 overall and advanced to next week's regional semifinal against Goodrich.

Max Noll scored 17 points for the Pioneers, who finished 18-6.

At the 5:21 mark of the second quarter, Cros-Lex took its largest lead, 16-8, on a Shane Slanec reverse layup.

Yale immediately called a timeout, which proved to be beneficial. From that point on, the Bulldogs closed the period with a 9-0 run, capped by Oliver Nelson's 3-pointer at the buzzer.

The third quarter was scoreless until Kohler's 3-pointer at 4:22. His brother, Landon, added one 29 seconds later.

On Yale's ensuing possession, Jackson hit a step-back triple that not only sent the home crowd into a frenzy, it gave the Bulldogs a 26-16 edge.

Cros-Lex's scoring drought eventually ended with 6:37 left in the fourth quarter on a Noll free throw.

Yale's regional semifinal matchup is 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, at North Branch High School.
