On Saturday morning, both the Arsenal academy and Dagenham & Redbridge posted on social media to confirm an extension to Will Sweet’s loan spell with the National League South club.

Sweet initially signed for Dagenham on a one-month loan lasting until February 26th, so it was meant to expire this week. But the two clubs have officially confirmed he’ll now remain where he is until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old has already made four appearances for the non-league side, but he should now be in line for plenty more over the coming months.

If Dagenham were unsure about extending Sweet’s deal before this week, the centre-back certainly did everything he could to make their minds up in the final appearance of his initial loan spell.

Starting against Chesham on Tuesday, Sweet helped his team to a clean sheet in a 1-0 win. Not only that, but he scored the winning goal with a looping header, and he was subsequently named in the National League South Team of the Week.

Sweet will now presumably step into the Dagenham starting lineup on a more regular basis, having started in two of his four games for the club so far.

The team take on AFC Totton in a league game on Saturday afternoon at 15:00 GMT, with Sweet eligible to feature.
