Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux in the Premier League on Tuesday, thanks to Andre’s last-gasp winner.

The first chance of the game arrived in the opening quarter of an hour when Hugo Ekitike made his way into the area, finding Jeremie Frimpong, but the Dutchman miscued his effort and it went wide.

Moments later, Dominik Szoboszlai tried his luck from a distance, but his long-range effort was gathered by Jose Sa.

For the remainder of the half, neither goalkeeper was troubled as both sides went into the break goalless.

Five minutes after the restart, the visitors almost took the lead after Ekitike flicked Mohamed Salah’s corner to the back post where Curtis Jones was waiting, but the ball struck Coady Gakpo and went onto the bar.

In the 78th minute, Rodrigo Gomes broke the deadlock after he was found by Tolu Arokodare, who then finished past Alisson Becker from an acute angle to give the hosts the lead.

Rio Ngumoha almost responded immediately for the Reds as his low curler nestled towards the bottom corner, but Sa tipped the youngster’s effort to the post.

However, in the 83rd minute, Sa couldn’t deny Salah from levelling, as the Egyptian latched onto a loose ball before beating the Portuguese goalkeeper at his near post.

The visitors pushed for a late winner, and Virgil van Dijk squandered a glorious opportunity to give them the lead as Ngumoha found him at the far post, but the Dutchman headed his effort straight at Sa.

Minutes later, the hosts got the winner via Andre, as his effort deflected off Joe Gomez and beyond the wrong-footed Alisson.

Wolves have now recorded a consecutive Premier League victory for the first time this campaign, and Liverpool have been condemned to their ninth league defeat of the season.
