Link Jarrett’s Florida State baseball team has been living dangerously of late.

The Seminoles (9-2) have won five straight games, but the last three of those have come by two or fewer runs. That includes Tuesday night’s 7-6 walk-off win over Jacksonville which saw Florida State crawl its way out of a 5-0 first-inning hole.

Florida State will look for a better result when it continues the only five-game week of the season Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Mercer. It’s also a chance for the Seminoles to snap a recent trend against the Bears, who have won in Tallahassee each of the last two seasons.

It remains somewhat up in the air who will start on the mound for FSU. Midweek starter Payton Manca would be the most logical option, but Jarrett said that he was sore this week, which prevented him from starting the JU game. If he felt better throwing a bullpen on Tuesday, he’s likely to get the nod on Wednesday.

Mercer (11-1) enters on a nine-game winning streak. The Bears are averaging 8.6 runs per game (tied for 45th in Division I) and are coming off a home sweep of Penn over the weekend.
