Wrexham AFC, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, announced its 2026 US tour, including matches in Florida, New York, and Philadelphia.
If you've been following the biggest Cinderella story of football (the non-U.S. type) or just following their progress on the Emmy-award-winning FX series "Welcome to Wrexham," get ready to yell "Up the town!" Wrexham AFC's 2026 U.S. tour has been announced, and they're starting in Florida.
In Wrexham's first Florida game ever, they'll face off against Premier League team Leeds United at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
Wrexham advanced again last year for a record-breaking third year in a row, and this year, they could see an unprecedented fourth promotion to the English top flight.
“We are all looking forward to returning to the US as part of our pre-season preparations," Wrexham AFC manager Phil Parkinson said in a March 4 news release. "We have had terrific support on our last trips to the States, and we can’t wait to see our supporters out there again, while also playing against three quality opponents in matches that will play a key part in us getting ready for the 2026/27 campaign.”
Wrexham will play three matches across the East Coast against exclusively Premier League opponents: Leeds in Tampa, Liverpool in New York City, and Sunderland AFC in Philadelphia.
Along with the men's team, Wrexham AFC will bring notable Club figures and former player legends, the release said. "Fans will have the chance to engage with these personalities, experiencing the magic of the Welsh city in the U.S."
What is Wrexham AFC?
The oldest club in Wales (founded in 1864) and the third-oldest professional team in the world, the Wrexham Red Dragons had been foundering for years.
They had been exiled to the National League, the fifth tier of English football, for over a decade when actors Rob Mac, formerly McElhenney (“It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”) and Ryan Reynolds ("Deadpool") bought Wrexham AFC for $2.5 million in 2020. They invested in the team, and it paid off big-time, both on the field and off.
Over the next few years, as documented by the often funny, often emotional docuseries that brought both the team and town worldwide notoriety, the team struggled to fight its way back up into the big leagues, finally achieving the historic feat of three consecutive promotions to reach English football's second tier.
As of March 4, Wrexham is currently sixth in the EFL Championship league with hopes of promotion to the Premier League. The next game is March 10th, against Hull City.
