FC Bayern could have its captain back!
After a setback cost him a comeback last weekend for Der Klassiker vs. Borussia Dortmund, Manuel Neuer is expected to play against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday per Bild:
According to BILD information, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (39) will return to the goal on Friday evening in the Bundesliga against Gladbach (8.30 pm/Sky) – 17 days after his muscle fiber tear in his left calf in Bremen (3:0).
On Wednesday, the 2014 World Cup winner participated in team training, just as he had on Tuesday. At 2 p.m., he entered the pitch at Säbener Straße with his fellow goalkeepers Jonas Urbig (22/22 Bayern appearances), reserve Sven Ulreich (37), and youth keeper Jannis Bärtl (19/Bayern II). A moment later, the curtain was completely drawn, and training continued behind the opaque screen.
After signaling problems with his left leg and lower back following last week’s goalkeeping session on Thursday, he nevertheless returned to the final training session on Friday before the 3-2 win in Dortmund. However, Neuer was still absent against BVB on Saturday. The club didn’t want to take any risks, and the quick return didn’t work out. Now, however, Neuer is fit again and is expected to return to the goal on Friday evening, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
This is a little shocking, given the high stakes ahead on the schedule — and maybe an unnecessary risk. However, it has long been thought that Neuer calls the shots on when he plays. True or not, it does not matter much in this case. If Bild is correct, Neuer will be back in between the sticks on Friday night.
