Three Embry-Riddle women's basketball players earned All-Sunshine State Conference honors Wednesday.
Embry-Riddle guard Eliana Sheplee was named the Sunshine State Conference’s Freshman of the Year, nominated First Team All-Conference and recognized on the All-Defensive Team on Wednesday, March 4.
The Eagles’ redshirt freshman guard transferred to Embry-Riddle after one season at Northern Iowa and promptly took over the Division II ranks. Sheplee led the conference with 21.5 points per game, making her the only player to eclipse the 20-point average, and was also fourth with 7.2 rebounds per game.
The nominations occurred one day after Sheplee dropped a conference game-high 41 points against Lynn in the first round of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament, breaking her previous best of 35 points against Flagler on Nov. 19.
Guard Kailey Turpening and forward Laurie Satchell were each named Third Team All-Conference.
Turpening led the Sunshine State Conference with 5.4 assists per game.
The efforts of Sheplee, Turpening and Satchell helped Embry-Riddle finish with a 21-5 regular-season record, a 16-4 conference record and the No. 2 seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.
The trio and the rest of the Eagles take the floor at home against Nova Southeastern at 7 p.m. Thursday as their quest for back-to-back conference championships continues.
