Manchester United chiefs are actively monitoring how Yan Diomande is faring throughout his maiden season with RB Leipzig.

It looks as though the Ivorian livewire is going to be one of the hottest topics of the summer transfer window, especially if he oversees a second half of the season that’s as tremendous as the first.

Yan Diomande: The state of play

Diomande joined Leipzig from Leganes in a deal worth only £17 million last July, and it’s safe to say the German outfit stand to make a lucrative profit if they’re made to part ways with the starlet anytime in the near future.

From their perspective, though, they’d much rather keep hold of him for the long-term. Club chief Marcel Schafer told Kicker back in January: It is our aim to keep players with us for longer than just one year, because otherwise you don’t achieve any continuity.”

In addition, one figure within the Red Bull group said to Flashscore that Diomande is the most gifted player within our system since Erling Haaland.’

United will be hoping that their ties with Red Bull may give them an upper hand over any other potential suitors; the side’s current recruitment director, Christopher Vivell, previously held roles as Head of Scouting and Recruitment at Salzburg and Technical Director at Leipzig – hence why he spearheaded the Reds’ pursuit of Benjamin Sesko last year.

In regard to how Diomande is faring this term, he has returned a hugely impressive 10 goals and seven assists in 26 matches across all competitions, with nine goals and six assists coming in his 23 Bundesliga appearances.

The 19-year-old has now established himself as a mainstay in Ole Werner’s starting XI and has registered a goal contribution in each of his last three league outings.

What Fabrizio Romano is hearing about Diomande

Weighing in on United’s interest, Fabrizio Romano revealed on his YouTube channel: “Manchester United have been following left wingers for some time. When Ruben Amorim was the manager, they were in the mix for Antoine Semenyo, but Manchester City was his favoured destination.

“Don’t forget about a player I’ve been telling you about: Yan Diomande. He’s doing fantastic at Leipzig, and my understanding is that United, in January, sent their scouts several times to follow Diomande. He’s being monitored for sure, but let’s see if there’s going to be more.”
