Fabian Hurzeler did not hide his frustration after Brighton’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, accusing Mikel Arteta’s side of winning in a way he refuses to copy.

The Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium was decided by Bukayo Saka’s early goal.

But the post-match discussion quickly shifted from the result to Brighton’s anger over how Arsenal managed the game. Hurzeler made it clear he admired his players’ approach even in defeat.

Fabian Hurzeler slams Mikel Arteta’s tactics after Brighton loss

BR Football shared Hurzeler’s blunt reaction after Brighton fell 1-0 to Arsenal in the Premier League.

“I think there was only one team who tried to play football today and therefore, I’m proud of how they did it.

Overall, like I said I will never be that kind of manager, who tries to win in that way. I want to develop players,” Hurzeler said.

The Brighton boss felt Arsenal slowed the rhythm of the match through repeated delays and careful game management once they took the lead.

It even led to tense moments on the touchline as Hurzeler and Arteta exchanged words during the match.

For Hurzeler, the issue was not simply losing the game but how it unfolded once Arsenal were ahead.

Arsenal time-wasting criticism grows after Brighton match

Hurzeler believes the Premier League needs stricter rules to control tactics that deliberately slow the pace of matches.

“I want that my players keep improving and keep playing football on the pitch and, in the end, of course, every team will manage and waste time, but I think there has to be a limit and the limit has to be set by the Premier League.

“The limit has to be set by referees. At the moment, they just can do what they want,” Hurzeler concluded.

The Brighton manager had already raised concerns about Arsenal’s approach before the game, particularly how long they take to organise set pieces such as corners and free kicks.

During the match itself, frustrations grew as Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya went down for treatment multiple times, which Brighton believed disrupted the flow of the game.

Despite dominating possession and chances, Brighton could not find an equaliser as Arsenal held on for a narrow victory that strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table.
