Palmer has had a difficult season, and missed virtually the entire first half of the campaign with a troublesome groin injury.

Since returning in December he’s shown some moments, but he’s largely struggled to make an impact and influence games.

Palmer has scored nine goals in the league this season, but he’s not scored since the 4-1 win against Aston Villa at the start of March.

Despite his struggles Palmer is still the player Chelsea look to in order to make something happen, and if they  are going to salvage anything over the last four games in the league he needs to rediscover his form.

Palmer has insisted he’s not thinking about leaving Chelsea, but if the Blues continue to miss out on the Champions League that could change.

McFarlane is now tasked with trying to get Palmer back to somewhere near his best, and he described the 23-year-old as a top talent.

“Cole’s a top talent. Cole can decide games at the highest level, he’s done that already in his very short career,” he told TNT Sports.

“And he’s super talented, so it’s pretty much about getting Cole in the right position and giving him the right amount of quality so that he can decide games of football whether that be with his finishing or his final pass or his creativity, whatever that may be.”
