UConn Football's Cam Edwards has been named to Preseason Doak Walker Award Watchlist, given annually to the nation's top running back.
UConn Football running back Cam Edwards was one of 103 college football running backs named to the 2025 Doak Walker Award Preseason Watch List on Tuesday afternoon.
The award is named after three-time All-American running back Doak Walker and is presented annually to the nation’s top running back in all of college football every season since 1990.
Edwards joined the Huskies as a recruit back in the 2022 class, where he signed on with the Huskies over five other offers from CCSU, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Sacred Heart.
After originally starting his career as a defensive back in 2022, Edwards would go on to redshirt in his first year as he would make the switch switch over to running back. In 2023, he appeared in nine games and started in each of the final five games of the season. In 2024, Edwards started the first six games of the season, but several talented backs in the room, the Huskies went to more of a committee approach. In the end, Edwards would lead the team in rushing with 830 yards and eight touchdowns on 146 carries, which was good enough for 5.7 yards per rush.
Edwards is once again expected to be the lead back once again for the Huskies in 2025.
