If Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints fans hoped their team would get Arch Manning in next year’s NFL Draft, his granddaddy has some bad news for you.
This will be Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning’s first season as the full-time leader of the program’s offense. And there are huge expectations for the former No. 1 high school recruit in the nation. However, the assumption by many around the sport is that this will be his only season as the undisputed face of the Texas offense.
Most expect him to jump to the NFL next year to be the No. 1 pick overall. The Browns and Saints are very early favorites to be in a position to draft the nephew of NFL greats Peyton and Eli Manning. However, their father, Hall of Famer Archie Manning, delivered some bad news for Cleveland and New Orleans fans about his grandson.
“Arch isn’t going to do that. He’ll be at Texas,” the oldest Manning told Texas Monthly about the idea of making the jump to the pros early next year.
- Arch Manning NIL earnings: He will reportedly earn close to $7 million in 2025
Arch Manning returning to Texas in 2026 is a real possibility
The news will surely be met with skepticism by many football analysts. And he is sure to be at or near the top of mock draft boards for the rest of the year. But Manning possibly sticking around for another season in Austin is not an outlandish idea.
Firstly, unlike decades past, college athletes are racking up huge sums of money in NIL deals. And the 21-year-old is the leader of the pack because he reportedly will make close to $7 million this year. There is no longer the same urgency to head to the NFL when a player can still live a college lifestyle while also being a millionaire.
Then there is the fact that his family, as much as any, will want him to go to a franchise that is the best fit for him. We can’t forget that his uncle Eli Manning refused to be drafted by the then-San Diego Chargers because his family preferred to have him land in New York with the Giants in 2004.
They could view the Browns and Saints the same way they once saw the Chargers, and feel there are more than enough reasons for him to go back to Texas to compete for a National Championship again in 2026.
