Later this season, NASCAR is pulling in a big celebrity to be grand marshal. Bill Murray is coming to the Enjoy Illinois 300. Gateway, now known as World Wide Technology Raceway, will also be host to Murray’s band.

NASCAR Cup Series fans are going to be in for quite an event at Gateway this season. The track has moved into the playoffs, and St. Louis is doing it up in a big way. Bill Murray is timeless, and having him as grand marshal is great for the sport.

The list of films and accolades is too long to list here. Everyone knows who Murray is, and there will be plenty of excited fans. But is he a better get than Cookie Monster?

September 7 is going to help get the festivities going on Sunday. A big-time star with a big-time race in the NASCAR Playoffs. That’s how you sell a race! Seriously, I’m not sure you can get the vibes better than by having Bill Murray not only be at the race, but perform at the race.

For those who don’t know, Bill Murray & His Blood Brothers have been touring and performing. Online, it appears that the group does classic rock covers. It’s going to be a fun time in St. Louis, folks.

Bill Murray and NASCAR Playoffs collide

This season, the race at Gateway means so much more. It is the second race of the first round. It will likely set up and determine the drivers on the bubble leading into the Bristol elimination race.

Darlington is back to being the first race of the playoffs. That’s perfect. Then we head to St. Louis. The one-mile track has given teams issues with brakes in the last few years. We will see if anyone has solved that issue or if it continues to be a problem.

The new playoff schedule is…interesting. I think the Round of 16 is by far the most straightforward. After that, it is New Hampshire, Kansas, and the Roval. Then, in the Round of 8, drivers will face Las Vegas, Talladega, and Martinsville. Phoenix remains the championship.

Bill Murray at Gateway. Who will have their playoff run jeopardized in the second race of the postseason?
