Taking the postgame podium after Missouri beat Oklahoma, Eli Drinkwitz got a little revenge on Bob Stoops. After the Sooners’ legend claimed OU always beats the “hell out of Missouri,” Drinkwitz just had to respond.

“This will be real disappointing to Bob Stoops, but OU doesn’t always whip Missouri’s ass anymore,” Drinkwitz said.

Drinkwitz is good friends with another Stoops brother, Mark. The two went head-to-head for years in the SEC East for a fun matchup between Missouri and Kentucky. And after seeing Drinkwitz go back and forth with his brother, Stoops could not help but send over a hilarious message.

“You know, I thought that might hurt my relationship with Stoops,” Drinkwitz said via The Dari Nowkhah Show. “Because they’re from Youngstown, alright. And those guys are pretty thick. So, after the game, after I made that comment, Stoops sent me a text and said ‘I’m just telling you, the Youngstown mafia may have a hit out on you. So you better start hiding.’ But, I hope, it was all in good fun.”

Youngstown, OH, has been known to put a few college football head coaches into the world. The Stoops are among the best of the bunch. People from the city are quite loyal to their people as well, even if you would not expect many Oklahoma or Kentucky fans inside the state.

Ohio State supporters might be a little more common. Unfortunately for Drinkwitz, the Buckeyes might not have the 2023 Cotton Bowl too far removed from their minds. He might be entering a lose-lose scenario.

As Drinkwitz said, it’s all in good fun — hopefully. We will get to see him go up against Oklahoma once again, with the return matchup to Norman scheduled for Nov. 22. Both teams plan on there being a little more than bragging rights on the line this go-round. Competing at the top of the SEC and contending for College Football Playoff spots are at the top of their minds.

Maybe some more sparks fly as an old Big Eight/Big 12 rivalry comes back to light in the SEC. Having somebody like Drinkwitz involved certainly helps the cause.

Mark Stoops should be able to just sit back and watch the whole scenario play out. Kentucky once again does not face Missouri, something we saw go away due to the SEC removing divisions. The earliest they can play again will be the 2026 season.
