Practice No. 7 is in the books.
It was another day of growth for BC, but due to some unfortunate circumstances early on.
Owen Stoudmire was injured during the 1-on-1 period where the offensive and defensive line were on one end of the field and DBs and receivers were on the other.
The BC training staff was immediately by his side and eventually, he was carted off as practice stopped. Then, Bill O’Brien called the seniors together and asked them if they wanted to keep practicing.
After some discussion, they did.
With seemingly a renewed sense of purpose, it turned into one of the better sessions the team has had so far this summer, both from a competition and play-making standpoint.
“We really don’t want to get into a bunch of speculation. We’re cautiously optimistic about his ability to recover,” O’Brien told the media after practice. “We don’t think it’s a major, serious injury right now. Our prayers are with him obviously. We’ve contacted his mom and things like that. We’ll know something more, probably tonight. But…again, not to get into a bunch of speculation, just cautiously optimistic about where it’s at, just to let you guys know.
“I left it up to the seniors. That’s a tough deal, you know. Football’s a tough sport. Seniors wanted to practice and I thought we actually ended up having a good practice. I think it says a lot about Owen Stoudmire. He’s an awesome guy on this team, definitely a leader. Just a tough, tough BC guy, you know? Graduate. Got the great award this past spring. Just an awesome guy.
“I think they practiced for him. I really do…I’ve kind of been through this before. I think it’s important…you can’t make the players practice. That’s not the way I handle it. So, I said ‘what do you guys want to do?’ I think they said ‘let’s talk about it for a little bit’ and then they decided ‘we want to practice.’ So, they wanted to keep practicing, so that’s what we did.
“I don’t know if it was 100%, but it was the majority. That’s what we did and I appreciate those guys.”
Once the Eagles did start up again, things moved inside. Here’s everything I saw from the hill and sideline outside and then inside Fish:
