Eligible for three national teams, Evan Ndicka chose to represent Côte d’Ivoire over France or Cameroon—a decision he fully embraces.
After progressing through all youth levels with the French national team, playing for the U16, U18, U19, U20, and U21 squads, the 25-year-old central defender ultimately chose to join the Elephants.
He made his debut on September 9, 2023, under Jean-Louis Gasset during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Lesotho (1-0). Since then, he has earned 19 caps.
The AS Roma centre-back could have also raised the flag for another African nation: Cameroon. “It’s very personal, but it was a natural choice. I decided to play for Côte d’Ivoire. I’m not saying I don’t like Cameroon—I love it a lot—but I preferred Côte d’Ivoire.”
Evan Ndicka has made no secret of his ambition to win a second AFCON title with his mother’s homeland. “It’s never easy, especially heading into a major competition. But it’s the national team—you have to go. We are the defending champions, and everyone wants to beat Côte d’Ivoire. No match will be easy. We’ll be ready to face every African team,” he concluded.
In the final phase of AFCON 2025, Ndicka will have a chance to face Cameroon in Group F, which also includes Gabon and Mozambique.
