Aston Villa continue their pre-season preparations with a friendly against Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome on Saturday.

Unai Emery’s side have had some mixed results in their recent warm-up games, including a 4-0 victory over Roma, while Marseille go into the match unbeaten in five pre-season fixtures.

With both teams integrating new signings and assessing their squad depth ahead of their respective 2025–26 domestic campaigns, this match offers a final tune-up before Villa‘s Premier League opener at home to Newcastle on August 16, while Marseille begin Ligue 1 away to Rennes a day beforehand.

Marseille vs Aston Villa – Predicted lineup and team news

Aston Villa team news

Villa have bolstered their attack by signing forward Evann Guessand from Nice on a long-term deal worth £30 million, and he will be in contention for minutes off the bench this Saturday.

New goalkeeper Marco Bizot and teenage centre-back Yasin Özcan are also expected to feature during the contest. Morgan Rogers suffered a knock in the 4-0 win over Roma and is likely to be rested, while Ollie Watkins and Emi Martínez remain fully fit.

Captain John McGinn, despite summer interest from Everton, remains at Villa Park and will start in midfield.
