COLUMBUS – Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has added more NFL experience to his coaching staff.

The Buckeyes are adding former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator and longtime NFL assistant coach Josh Boyer in an off-field role, sources confirm to Lettermen Row. ESPN’s Pete Thamel first reported the news.

Boyer was the defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins from 2020-22. Prior to that he served as the Dolphins defensive pass game coordinator & cornerbacks coach in 2019.

The majority of Boyer’s coaching career has been spent with the New England Patriots, however. He joined the Patriots as a defensive assistant in Foxborough from 2006. He stayed in that role for three seasons before being promoted to defensive backs coach in 2009. Boyer then served as the Patiorts cornerbacks coach from 2012-2018.

During his time in New England, Boyer worked closely with current Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. Both were with the Patriots from 2006-2017 before Patricia left to become the head coach of the Detroit Lions.
