South Carolina fans witnessed a historic redshirt freshman season from their star quarterback, LaNorris Sellers.

Naturally, none were surprised when LaNorris’s brother, Jayden Sellers, decided to join the fun in Columbia, South Carolina.

Jayden committed to the Gamecocks long before LaNorris’s breakout season in 2024. The younger Sellers brother locked in his commitment on Oct. 26, 2023.

“The day I committed, I wasn’t really joking around with him, but I was just like, ‘Bro, I’m thinking about committing.’ And he was talking about ‘Bro, go ahead and commit,'” Jayden told GamecockCentral. “And a couple minutes later, (Shane) Beamer called me and was like, ‘So, (are you) going to commit, or what?’ and I was like, ‘Yeah. I’m committed.'”

When Jayden committed, LaNorris had only thrown four passes in a South Carolina uniform. All four passes came against Furman in 2023, where he completed all four attempts for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

By the time Jayden signed on Dec. 4, 2024, his older brother had become a household name in the city of Columbia.

The brothers dominated at South Florence High School together, leading the Bruins to their first-ever state title in 2022 during LaNorris’s senior year. While Jayden tore his ACL in his first season without his brother, he returned in his senior year to help lead the school to another state title in 2024.

In that first state title game in 2022, Jayden caught four passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns from his older brother.

Bringing that connection to Southeastern Conference football is nothing short of a blessing, Jayden said.

“I mean, we’ve been playing football since we were little,” Jayden said. “We’d be playing in our backyard, running routes and stuff like that. So it’s not really anything new, but it’s a blessing at a top SEC (school) on the same team.”

After Jayden arrived in January, his IQ for the game grew tenfold, he said.

“I thought I knew a lot about football,” Jayden said. “But when I got here, they showed me I didn’t know a lot about football. Just growing that way was a big thing towards my development.”

LaNorris offered some initial advice when his younger brother got to Columbia.

“When I got here, he was really just like, ‘Study the plays, be consistent,” Jayden said.

LaNorris said he’s somewhat harder on Jayden than the other receivers simply due to being brothers. However, he makes sure he’s there when he needs to be.

“He wants to feel like he doesn’t have to, but he does come to me when he needs something, but he really doesn’t do that too much,” LaNorris said.
