UCLA head coach DeShaun Foster announces tickets for the Bruins’ season opener against Utah would be free for first responders. It was a wonderful gesture for those battling California’s current wildfires.
UCLA will kickoff with former Pac-12 foe Utah in Los Angeles at 8:00 p.m PT on Saturday August 30th in what should be a very intriguing game. Any first responders who choose to come for a great event will be welcomed with open arms.
“August 30th, our first game this year is gonna be the first responder game,” Foster said. “The tickets will be free for all first responders, just showing (a form of) ID or anything. You can check the links there on both our social media accounts, Twitter and Instagram, please come out. This is our first opportunity to really just share and let them know, the first responders, how we feel about them and how important it was for them to, you know, they basically saved us, you know, because (the fires) didn’t make it to UCLA.
“But we want to really just show our appreciation program. So the first game we would love for every first responder to come out and come and support us, because we want to support you.”
UCLA went 5-7 during its first season under Foster. The team started 1-5, but finished 4-2 down the stretch to get some momentum into 2025.
Over the course of the offseason, UCLA made headlines landing former Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava after his surprise transfer from the Vols. He gives Foster and the Bruins a reliable quarterback this season, but there will certainly be pressure to perform.
“He’s just somebody that I don’t think he can really get rattled, you know? Personality wise, he’s kind of quiet a little bit, but, you know, confidence,” Foster said at Big Ten Media Days. “But a quarterback, you know? You got to be able to function with stuff around you. Like, turn around a little bit. He has a whole, you know? [Gestures to size of media swarm at Iamaleava’s table] He has a little stage of people that want to talk to him. But he’s just somebody that, you know, he’s composed, and I just hope that he just brings it on to the field and we just continue to grow.”
UCLA and Utah will kickoff the season in less than three weeks. A new-look Bruins team will hope to show out for the fans in attendance, including the brave first responders.
