Keaton Mitchell took full advantage of his chance to thrive in Ravens' preseason opener

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell doesn't mind playing clean up behind Derrick Henry

Baltimore Ravens running back Keaton Mitchell kept things business as usual in the 24-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in NFL preseason week 1. Mitchell took full advantage of his chance to thrive, finishing with nine carries for 68 total yards and a touchdown in front of fans at M&T Bank Stadium. With all this, will Mitchell see enough playing time in the regular season to make an impact?

Head coach John Harbaugh has spoken highly of Mitchell throughout training camp, noting that Mitchell’s pass catching abilities out of the backfield could be an element to the team’s offensive success this season.

Mitchell’s Injury in 2022 was a minor setback, but now he has to face the challenge of convincing offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Harbaugh that he deserves reps over running back Justice Hill.  With running back Derrick Henry piloting at No. 1 on the team depth chart, it’s rather inexpedient to over insert Mitchell into the scheme of things. Nevertheless, Mitchell’s play will be something noted as a point of reference if strategies hint towards more opportunities for him in the regular season.

Even if Mitchell isn't frequently involved or inserted into the game plan this season, he'll still humbly await his turn behind Henry, Hill, and the No. 1 rushing offense in the NFL. The Ravens have a nice batch of young talented players they will be able to replenish their franchise with in the decade to come and Mitchell is apart of that collective group.
