The Minnesota Twins decided to pivot to the future at this year’s trade deadline, parting ways with several key pieces on the active roster in an attempt to retool the farm system.

The reasoning behind breaking up the team was underperformance in the second half, as the Twins currently sit in fourth place in the AL Central with a 55–61 record.

Despite the organization's struggles this year, Byron Buxton has dominated in 2025. Even after seeing multiple star teammates moved, he has made his intentions clear about remaining with Minnesota long-term despite the roster shake-up.

The 31-year-old had an excellent first half of the season, earning his second All-Star selection and first since 2022.

Twins Provide Update on Byron Buxton’s Return Timeline

Buxton is currently on the 10-day injured list with left ribcage inflammation. He was placed on the IL on July 29, retroactive to July 27.

An update surfaced before Sunday’s series finale against the Kansas City Royals that the team anticipates his activation to come during the upcoming series against the New York Yankees beginning on Monday.

"Sounds like there's a good chance the #MNTwins will activate Byron Buxton (ribs) during the upcoming Yankees series in New York, perhaps as soon as Monday."

Even in Rebuild, Buxton Still Core Piece of Twins’ Future Plans

Buxton’s importance to the Twins’ organization began over a decade ago when he was selected second overall in the 2012 MLB Draft out of high school.

Since then, his health has been his biggest concern, and he has spent his 11-year career battling injuries, appearing in only 857 regular-season games.

His abilities, however, have never raised concern. In 85 games when healthy this year, he hit .282 with a .905 OPS, 23 home runs, and 59 RBIs.

Even if Minnesota does not find itself in a position to compete for a playoff spot down the stretch, it would be an encouraging sign to see Buxton finish the season healthy, as he remains part of their long-term future.
