The New England Patriots received brutal injury news at Sunday morning's practice when undrafted free agent running back Lan Larison was not seen on the field. The UC Davis running back has been placed on injured reserve, according to Boston Herald's Doug Kyed.

Larison competed for a depth role in the Patriots' backfield behind Rhamondre Stevenson, rookie TreVeyon Henderson, and Antonio Gibson. However, he has had an outstanding training camp and put himself in a dark-horse position to make New England's 53-man roster.

The rookie running back continued his strong camp in Friday night's preseason opener against the Washington Commanders with seven carries for 35 yards and a touchdown. Larison caught two passes for nine yards and had a 25-yard kick return.

After the game, Larison was seen in a walking boot, and speculation began around his injury status. The UC Davis product now has a tough break as he lands on injured reserve.

In a corresponding move, the Patriots signed running back Deneric Prince, who most recently played for the UFL's Memphis Showboats. Prince also spent time on the Miami Dolphins' practice squad in 2024 and won Super Bowl LVIII with the Kansas City Chiefs after going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft.

In other injury news, Patriots' cornerback Christian Gonzalez will not practice this week but will travel with the team for their joint practices and preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. Fellow cornerback Carlton Davis III returned to practice on Sunday, as well as left tackle Morgan Moses, according to head coach Mike Vrabel.

However, receiver Ja'Lynn Polk, who left Friday's preseason opener with an upper-body injury, will not practice this week or travel with the team.
