Miami Dolphins rookie QB Quinn Ewers struggled in Sunday's preseason game vs. the Chicago Bears, raising some concerns about Arch Manning.

For the last two seasons, Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning have been synonymous with each other.
The two quarterbacks were first and second, respectively, on the Texas Longhorns depth chart, and some fans were convinced there was a legitimate QB controversy between the two last season.
But with Ewers—a seventh-round pick of the Miami Dolphins back in April—now in the NFL, Manning is taking over a Longhorns program primed to make some noise in Year 2 in the SEC and possibly contend for a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2025, while Ewers will be getting his feet wet in the NFL as Tua Tagovailoa’s backup.
While Manning’s season doesn’t begin for a few more weeks, lots of eyes were on Ewers as he made his NFL preseason debut Sunday night against the Chicago Bears.
The 22-year-old signal-caller had a performance to forget, completing just 5 of 18 passes for 91 yards with a passer rating of 48.1 and two sacks taken.
Ewers was less than impressive going against Chicago’s second- and third-string defense, and his underwhelming stat line led to him being raked over the coals on social media.
Not only that, but Manning even came under fire with several fans questioning how it was possible he couldn’t beat out Ewers when they were both vying for the starting job at Texas.

“How bad is Arch if he couldn’t start over this guy?” asked one fan.
“Arch Manning couldn’t beat this guy out????? Oh brother Texas is cooked 😭😭😭😭,” another fan exclaimed.
“This is the guy Manning couldn’t beat out?,” a third fan questioned.
“This guy INJURED was starting over Arch 😭😭😭,” one user scoffed.
“This the guy Arch couldn’t beat out, btw,” another user noted.
“Arch couldn’t beat out this guy??? Yikes!😬,” one fan replied.
“He beat out Arch… for 2 years…,” declared another.
Manning filled in for Ewers for a few games last season when he went down with an abdominal injury.
In six appearances, including two starts, Manning threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions, he rushed for 108 yards and four more scores, and he led Texas to its first-ever conference win as a member of the SEC in a 35-13 victory over Mississippi State on Sept. 28.
Despite how well he played in his limited minutes, and the growing number of calls from fans wanting Manning to be the permanent starter, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian went back to Ewers after he returned.
