Restricted free agent Chicago Bulls point guard Josh Giddey appears to have lost out on a key sign-and-trade path as talks between his representatives and Chicago's grind on without a resolution in sight.

Per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Golden State Warriors have no interest in flipping their own embattled 22-year-old restricted free agent, power forward Jonathan Kuminga, in exchange for Giddey.

Of course, Giddey never made any sense at all as an option for Golden State, a team already rife with guards and ball-dominant players. Giddey, like Kuminga, thrives the most with the ball in his hands. On a team with Hall of Famers Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green, Giddey wouldn't exactly thrive. He's also historically been a fairly inconsistent jump shooter, and could get lost in the shuffle as part of Golden State's system.

The one scenario in which Giddey would make some sense is as a next-gen star Golden State is interested in once the 37-year-old Curry and 35-year-old Butler and Green age out of their usefulness (for now, all are surprisingly still quite productive). But his awkward fit with those stars seems to have been the ultimate determining factor here.

A Bull that would make some sense, however, is center Nikola Vucevic — a good long range shooter, rebounder, and passer for his position. Vucevic, 35, is on a pretty reasonable expiring $20 million deal, and thus could create cap space for the Warriors heading into free agency next summer. But additional pieces would likely be needed in a deal, making a trade fairly difficult to pull off for the Warriors.

The Warriors have also been reticent to move off the contract of one of two guards — Moses Moody and Buddy Hield — who are said to be needed in a deal with the Sacramento Kings. One wonders if their theoretical inclusion in a Bulls deal was similarly unappetizing.

Perhaps more importantly, Golden State seems to be expecting former five-time All-Star Boston Celtics 3-and-D power forward/center Al Horford to sign on as soon as the Warriors figure out their Jonathan Kuminga problem. Horford, while four years Vucevic's senior, is still a better player right now, and will almost certainly be had for a cheaper annual deal.
