The San Francisco Giants were blanked 8-0 by the Washington Nationals on Sunday as their offense sputtered and the pitching staff surrendered 17 hits at Oracle Park. Washington’s lineup produced early runs and never looked back.

With that, the Giants fell to a record of 59-59, but yesterday wasn't all bad news for them. The day ended with a milestone — the 3,500th strikeout belonging to Justin Verlander. He became the 10th pitcher to achieve this feat.

MLB announced that on X alongside a clip of his immediate reaction. In total, he struck out six batters in the game, pitching five innings.

Justin Verlander Expresses His Desire to Continue Playing

Verlander has reached such an age that an injury could quickly end his career. Despite that, he wants to continue playing in the MLB.

“I mean, I’d like to,” he said to John Shea of The San Francisco Standard. “At this point in my career, if something goes really wrong, I’m not going to rehab a surgery or anything. I always understand that it could be it, but I think physically, I've shown some good health this season."

"As I’ve been on the mound, things have started to get better and better," he continued. "To me, that’s a good sign with all the work I put in after my nerve injury last year, which notoriously takes a long time."

"The ball’s rolling in the right direction, and I would like to continue pitching. You never know. It’s a fickle game too, but I think the stuff is still there,” he added.
