The Sacramento Kings entered the offseason with a key decision to make as to whether they wanted to keep their current core and chase a playoff spot next season or begin a rebuild.

Many around the league expected Sacramento to begin a rebuild this summer after trading De’Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs last season but that has not been the case.

Instead, the Kings have elected to keep their core of Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine together and they have also made some other notable additions to their roster.

During the 2025 draft, the Kings selected Nique Clifford and Maxime Raynaud, both of whom should have a large role during their rookie campaign next season.

Sacramento also landed Dennis Schroder in free agency via a sign-and-trade with the Detroit Pistons and he is set to enter next season as their new starting point guard.

Of course, the Kings have also been linked to many other players this summer, including both Jonathan Kuminga and Russell Westbrook.

Sabonis opens up about Kings' offseason thus far

On Sunday, star center Sabonis was at a youth basketball camp that he hosts where he was asked about the Kings’ offseason thus far.

“A lot has changed; a lot’s probably still gonna change, so we’re just gonna to wait and see til training camp,” Sabonis said.

Sabonis is right when saying that a lot has changed in Sacramento this offseason with the notable additions to their roster along with the franchise hiring Scott Perry as their new general manager.

The star center also expects more changes to take place before the start of training camp, which would make sense for the Kings as they try to better their roster even more to make a run at the playoffs next season.

Of course, there were major questions surrounding Sabonis’ future in Sacramento entering this summer after they moved on from Fox last season as it was reported that Sabonis was set to meet with management about the path of the team.

Clearly it looks like those talks panned out well for the Kings as Sabonis has remained with the franchise thus far instead of demanding a trade like many around the NBA believed would happen.

Either way, it would still not be a surprise to see the Kings move on from Sabonis next season, especially if they find themselves as a fringe Play-In team once again.
