Former Pitt wide receiver Bub Means will not get the opportunity to build upon his rookie season with the New Orleans Saints.
This afternoon, the New Orleans placed Means on injured reserve, which means he’ll be sidelined for the entire 2025 season. On Sunday in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers, Means suffered an ankle injury that presumably is worse than originally first thought.
In an eerie coincidence, Means was also placed on the injured reserve last season after suffering an ankle injury against the Chargers.
This is unfortunate because after being drafted in the 5th round and appearing in seven games where he caught 9 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown, Means was pushing for playing time in 2025.
Prior to this injury, Means was listed as second team on the depth chart. The Saints are thin at wide receiver with Chris Olave, Brandin Cooks and Rashid Shaheed being their top three options.
Means is entering the second year of his 4-year, $4,093,720 rookie contract with New Orleans.
Following the 2021 season, Means transferred to Pitt from Louisianna Tech and took a year to live up to his potential. In his first season, Means caught 27 passes for 401 yards and 2 touchdowns. The following season, he pulled in 41 catches for 721 yards and 6 touchdowns and declared for the 2024 NFL Draft.
