Record-breaking pop superstar Taylor Swift joined Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce for a highly-anticipated episode of their podcast “New Heights” Wednesday night, which saw over one million people tune in live during the YouTube premiere.
The show was full of great quotes from the trio, but the story of Travis and Taylor’s first date was one of the major takeaways. Swift shared a hilarious story, in which she thought that Travis Kelce (who plays tight end for the Chiefs) and Jason Kelce (who played center for the Eagles) faced off against each other on the field during 2022’s Super Bowl LVII.
“On our first date, I legitimately asked (Travis) what it was like when the Chiefs played the Eagles in the Super Bowl and he looked across the field (across the line of scrimmage) and saw his brother standing five feet ahead of him on the field. I now know what an insane question that was,” Swift said with a laugh.
“He was like ‘actually, I’m on the offense and my brother’s on the offense. I’m only on the field at the same time as the defense. I thought everyone was on the field at the same time. I thought that the quarterbacks, like Jared Goff was here and Josh Allen was here. And they’re gonna be like, you blow a whistle and then go at each other and they’re like ahh! Like who’s gonna win?”
Although Travis and Jason certainly faced the aspect of going up against each other in the Super Bowl, they didn’t quite actually meet face-to-face on the field. Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs would eventually come out on top 38-35 in Super LII (also known as the Kelce Bowl).
Since Swift and Kelce began dating in summer 2023, they have emerged as one of the most popular celebrity couples ever. Swift has made multiple appearances in the Kansas City Chiefs box seats over the span of the past two seasons and was down on the field celebrating the Chiefs’ 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in 2024’s Super Bowl LVIII.
