The No. 12 jersey belongs to one of the most fascinating new weapons for the Colorado State football offense.
Bullock is the No. 12, and is a quarterback who is also a bit of everything.
“He’s a playmaker and we want to fill this team with as many playmakers as we can,” CSU coach Jay Norvell said of Bullock. “He’s a big, physical guy and can do a lot of things well.”
Bullock’s decision to transfer to CSU from Akron was one of the more interesting additions of the offseason. He spent two seasons at Virginia Tech and two at Akron, starting three games for the Zips last season.
It meant one year of eligibility and he chose a spot at CSU with an established starter in Fowler-Nicolosi.
“I wasn’t looking at strictly (QB) or strictly playing the hybrid position all over the place, just the best opportunity and I thought this was the best one,” Bullock said.
When meeting with Norvell in the recruiting process, Bullock stressed he wanted to be in the QB room even if playing a little bit of everywhere.
“I told him I want to be in the quarterback meetings because the quarterback is the leader of the program, essentially. He has to know what everyone’s job is,” Bullock said.
So, the multiple roles fit him naturally. He knows what the job of every player is on each play, now he just has to execute them.
Bullock’s appearances on the field for CSU should be full of intrigue. Think Taysom Hill with the Saints. He’ll run the ball. He’ll have some plays where he passes it, either from a traditional QB drop or a more trick-play setup. He’ll catch the ball.
At Akron last year, Bullock threw 29 passes (21 for 29 for 176 yards). He carried the ball 54 times for 142 yards and eight touchdowns. He caught 10 passes for 63 yards.
Listed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds (for reference, Hill is listed at 6-2, 221 with the Saints), Bullock has size and speed to be dangerous with the ball in his hands and could be a key threat in short yardage and red zone situations.
Bullock's role is one of the most unique ones in CSU's offensive toolbox.
“I’m a ball player more than anything,” Bullock said.
