Louisville basketball extended Dynamic Prep (Tex.) shooting guard Ryan Hampton a scholarship late Wednesday evening.

The 6-foot-5, 175-pound Hampton is one of the best players available among this year’s rising juniors. He’s the No. 5 overall prospect according to Rivals’ Industry Rankings for the 2027 class and is the No. 1-ranked shooting guard.

The Rockwall, Texas, native is the younger brother of former 2019 five-star R.J. Hampton, who was a former first-round NBA Draft pick with the Milwaukee Bucks and has also spent time with the Denver Nuggets and Orlando Magic. Hampton is currently a member of the Washington Wizards’ G-League roster — the Capital City Go-Go.

It’s of note that Hampton elected not to play college ball and played in the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) for the New Zealand Breakers in the year before he was drafted.

Much like his older brother, the newest Louisville basketball offer has sprouted into a lean and lanky frame. The 2027 product is a shifty and dynamic offensive player and recently rose in the rankings due to a stellar performance on the Nike EYBL circuit this past summer.

Hampton is a pure bucket-getter. He averaged 26.8 points and shot 61.4 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from beyond the arc for the week in July’s Peach Jam. While at the time he was rated as a four-star, the scoring ability took many college coaches by surprise. He’ll have to continue adding muscle and strength around the rim in his final two years of high school, but come decision time, Hampton will be one that every team wants on their roster.

The shooting guard has been in the process of developing relationships with college coaches and visited SMU twice last season (Nov. 30 & Feb. 22). He’s also taken an unofficial visit to LSU, which was back in November as well.

Cardinals head coach Pat Kelsey and assistant Ronnie Hamilton have begun shifting their focus to some of the junior class’ talent, including top-30 center Darius Wabbington. Wabbington recently spoke with Rivals’ Jamie Shaw on his recruitment, Coach Hamilton, and the Cards.

Again, Kelsey and Louisville keep swinging for the fences on the recruiting trail, and Hampton has the chance to be a grand slam.
