Seattle set out to overhaul the offense this offseason, and Thursday added another fullback ahead of facing the Chiefs.
Less than two weeks remain until teams across the NFL are forced to trim down from 90 players to 53, and the Seattle Seahawks still have a pair of preseason games to play.
With the first of those two matchups set for Friday evening against the Kansas City Chiefs, Seattle on Thursday made a change to the roster by adding another fullback to the roster.
The signing of Wesley Steiner gives the Seahawks three members of the roster listed at fullback in former tight ends Brady Russell and Robbie Ouzts. Both Ouzts and Russell figure to have significant roles on special teams, but adding Steiner adds a level of athleticism to the position that is currently lacking.
Similar to how John Schneider added high-level athletes to the roster in the draft this past spring, Steiner’s pre-draft measurables display his athleticism, even if his 5-11”, 235-pound size left him on the low end for linebackers.
That is an impressive RAS, but it climbs even higher when he is compared to fullbacks.
In order to make room on the roster for Steiner, the Seahawks waived linebacker Michael Dowell.
