Mississippi State will honor its 2000 football team by wearing an all white uniform at home against Tennessee on September 27.
Mississippi State will wear all white uniforms while hosting Tennessee on September 27 in Starkville, as the Bulldogs celebrate the 25th anniversary of the “Snow Bowl.”
Mississippi State announced on Thursday that the team will wear its all-white core road uniform against the Vols, paired with a white helmet with the maroon MSU interlocking logo and a maroon facemask and helmet stripe.
That means Tennessee will either have to wear its traditional home orange jersey on the road or wear an alternate uniform, like the Smokey Grey the Vols wore in 2022 at LSU or the Dark Mode alternate uniform that has been worn for one home game each of the last three seasons.
Mississippi State honoring 2000 team, Snow Bowl win vs. A&M
The all-white Mississippi State uniform will pay homage to the 2000 Bulldogs, who beat Texas A&M 43-41 in the Independence Bowl, played in a snowstorm in Shreveport, La.
Former Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill and members of the 2000 Mississippi State team will be invited back to Starkville and recognized during the game, according to a press release.
Mississippi State will also do a white out in the crowd for the Tennessee game.
The Vols haven’t worn their home orange jersey in a true road game since the 30-27 overtime win at LSU in 2005. They also wore orange in Baton Rouge in 2010 and 2000, with the Tigers traditionally wearing white at home.
Tennessee wore white in a 20-0 win at LSU in 1990, with the Tigers in purple jerseys. The Vols went with the Smokey Grey alternate uniform at Tiger Stadium in the 40-13 win in 2022, the first and only time they have worn grey in a road game.
The 38-24 win over Nebraska in the Music City Bowl in 2016 also featured Tennessee in its Smokey Grey alternate.
